Thank you for taking the time to review the 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count! Toolkit for Children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. This toolkit was developed by Let's Go! at the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center. The Iowa Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (IAAP) received the Inclusive Health Grant, sponsored by the AAP Institute for Healthy Childhood Weight with support from Special Olympics to assemble a group of statewide stakeholders to review and revise the toolkit for use in Iowa.

5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count! encourages schools, child care programs, out-ofschool programs, and health care practices to increase healthy eating and physical activity opportunities for ALL children. The program is based on the following easy-to-remember message:

  • 5 or more fruits & vegetables
  • 2 hours or less recreational screen time*
  • 1 hour or more of physical activity
  • 0 sugary drinks, more water

*keep TV/Computer out of the bedroom. No screen time under the age of 2
