Center for Science in the Public Interest
  • The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) seeks to transform the food system through leading-edge policy innovations for changes that benefit consumers and public health. Under the Special Olympics Inclusive Health Innovation Grant program, supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CSPI collaborated with the American Network of Community Options and Resources to better understand the challenges group home settings face in improving the dietary quality of food offered.

Research suggests that food served in group home settings is often of poor nutritional quality and people with ID disproportionately face adverse diet-related health outcomes, like obesity. The knowledge CSPI gained in more thoroughly understand group home settings puts it in an ideal position to encourage its partners to be cognizant of people with ID in their existing policy approaches to ensure that large-scale food policies promote inclusive health.
