American Academy of Pediatrics

A Young Female Athlete from France Gets a Fit Feet Examination During a Healthy Athletes Event in Athens at the 2011 World Summer Games

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is an organization of 66,000 pediatricians committed to the optimal physical, mental, and social health and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. For their inclusive health project, AAP solicited applications from pediatricians to implement activities at the community or organizational level. AAP applied a model that has been instituted successfully across a variety of topics. These projects will focus on strengthening the relationship between the healthcare community and community of people with intellectual disabilities (ID). The benefits will be to seed and promote linkages and approaches to support healthy weight initiatives for children with ID. We will be producing a final report that highlights best practices, success stories and lessons learned from all of these projects that we can disseminate through AAP channels, national partners and in-person at conferences and exhibits.
